Work experience 2:
Day 1, March 11
Today was my first day at Crown Dental Studios for work experience. My shift started at 9.00pm and my supervisor quickly went over the safety procedures with me. I was than given a tour of my workplace to get a general idea of the different types of jobs that exist there. I didn't do much on the first day because I spent the majority of my time observing and learning how to perform some of the tasks, which the more experienced employees were more than willing to provide me with assistance on.
Day 5, March 15
Today I started my shift by walking around and watching what the workers in my station were doing. After observing carefully, I put together the frames for what the more experienced workers later used to attach the final sculpture of the teeth on. I than later began to put plaster into these small cups, while at the same time resting there bases on a machine that moved very fast in a vibrating motion to eliminate any bubbles which, if present, could be a very costly mistake in the long run. After the plaster quickly dried up and hardened, I gave it to a worker in my station to begin sculpting.
Day 7, March 20
There was not much to do today and it was starting to get boring until my supervisor introduced me to the next station. It was much more different than the last station because there are hardly any machines and it is very quiet. Therefore much more concentration is involved and you have to be much more precise in what you are doing. People in my station were even using microscopes to assure everything was as accurate as possible. After I was done with this station, I was given pliers to cut the frames for the teeth.
Day 10, March 22
It was finally my last at crown dental studios and I started my day off by packaging a bunch of advertisements to various dentists. I was later introduced to room I have never been in where they were making gold crowns. It was very interesting because they had a large centrifuge which shot out gold to take the shape of the crown after burning out the wax which had originally made the shape of the crown. I than was introduced to the final station which seemed the most exciting. It basically applied the final touches to the crown. In order to succeed in this area you have to artistic. I was very surprised when I found out all of the different shades of teeth people have(hardly any of which having pure white teeth) and the workers in this station have to make sure that they get exact shade.
